Wood Thilsted and COP Frontier launch new offshore wind foundation company
Together, Wood Thilsted and COP Frontier have launched Neretek, a joint
venture focused on developing the next generation of offshore wind foundations.
The company aims to deliver innovative solutions for deepwater offshore
wind projects, supporting local jobs, attracting investment and driving
growth across the sector.
At the center of Neretek's offering is its BC90 technology, an offshore
wind foundation designed for water depths of 60 to 90 metres. The design
aims to extend the simplicity and scalability of monopile foundations into
deeper waters while maintaining relatively low costs and risk.
The launch follows the UK government's AR8 announcement, which set out
measures to support further growth in the offshore wind sector. Neretek
believes its technology could help unlock deeper water sites around the
UK, where conventional fixed-bottom foundations become less suitable.
Jonathan Cole, Neretek chair and former chair of the Global Wind Energy
Council, said: “Neretek’s new BC90 technology is capable of removing
the potential hiatus between existing fixed offshore wind designs and yet-to-be-commercialised
floating offshore wind.”
