Vattenfall signs renewable power deal for Nscale’s Norway AI data centre
Vattenfall
and Nscale have signed a long-term renewable power purchase agreement to
support the first phase of Nscale’s data centre development in Kvandal,
northern Norway.
The agreement
will supply a significant share of the site’s electricity needs between
2027 and 2031. Nscale’s Kvandal facility is planned with an initial capacity
of 230 MW and is expected to operate using 100% renewable power.
Vattenfall said
the deal reflects growing demand for renewable electricity from AI and
digital infrastructure sectors across the Nordics.
Rising power demand
from AI and data centre developments is expected to strengthen long-term
demand for new renewable generation, including offshore wind capacity being
developed across northern Europe.
Nscale said operations
at the Kvandal site near Narvik are expected to begin in 2027.
