Vattenfall begins offshore foundation installation for Nordlicht wind farm
Vattenfall has installed the first monopile for its Nordlicht offshore
wind project in the German North Sea, marking the start of offshore construction
for Germany's largest offshore wind development.
The foundation was installed by DEME, who were responsible for transporting
and installing the monopiles and transition pieces for both Nordlicht
I and
Nordlicht
II.
The monopiles are now being manufactured by EEW Special Pipe Constructions
in Rostock, with transition pieces being produced by CSWind in Aalborg.
Once complete, Nordlicht I will consist of 68 monopile foundations, each
measuring up to 80.5 metres long and weighing as much as 1,290 tonnes.
Located north of Borkum, the Nordlicht cluster will have a combined capacity
of around 1.61 GW once fully operational in 2028.
Project Director Cyril Moss said the installation marked an important milestone
for the project and would support Europe's energy transition.
