UK signals EU electricity deal in King’s Speech briefing
The UK government has outlined plans to negotiate a new electricity agreement
with the EU to improve cross-border power trading and support investment
in North Sea energy infrastructure.
Background briefing notes published alongside the King’s Speech said closer
cooperation with European electricity markets would help reduce power prices,
strengthen energy security and support the government’s Clean Power 2030
target.
The proposals could support the expansion of offshore wind generation and
future interconnector development between the UK and European markets as
North Sea renewable capacity increases.
