UK removes consultation requirement to accelerate offshore wind approvals

The UK Government has announced it’s removing a key planning requirement for major infrastructure projects with aims to speed up the development of clean energy.

The changes will eliminate the mandatory pre-application consultation requirement for nationally significant infrastructure projects.

The government says the changes could cut approval timelines by as much as 12 months and save developers around £1 billion during the current parliament.

Projects expected to benefit include wind farms, solar projects, reservoirs and transport links. These changes will aim to improve energy security and support the expansion of renewable energy.

The reforms are part of the Labour government's broader effort to speed up infrastructure development and boost economic growth.
