The UK government has issued an exemptions request notice ahead of Contracts
for Difference Allocation Round 8, outlining provisional timelines and
eligible technologies.
The notice, published on 8 May 2026, states that the next CfD application
window is expected to open on 20 July 2026, with exemption requests required
by 2 June 2026.
Technologies expected to be eligible for AR8 include offshore wind, floating
offshore wind, onshore wind, solar PV and tidal stream projects.
The document indicates provisional delivery years for offshore wind projects
extending to 2031/32, while floating offshore wind projects are expected
to target delivery in 2029/30 and 2030/31.
The exemptions process allows eligible generators to apply for certificates
enabling participation where temporary site exclusions may otherwise apply.
Requests must include project details, site plans and supporting planning
information in line with regulatory requirements.
The government said that all technology eligibility and delivery year details
remain provisional and will be confirmed ahead of the application window
opening in July 2026.
