UK confirms AR8 auction rules for offshore wind projects


The UK government has published the Price and Pot Notice for Allocation Round 8 of the Contracts for Difference regulations, which confirms the auction’s structure and pricing arrangements for offshore wind and other renewables.

This notice extends the regulations surrounding the visibility of anonymous bids given out 1 June 2026. The new ruling confirms that the Government will have visibility of floating offshore wind in addition to other Deep water Offshore Wind bids.

According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the change reflects revised internal pipeline assumptions and is intended to improve the government's ability to shape auction outcomes and assess value for money.

Additionally, the government has introduced separate clearing prices in Pot 3 with the price determined by the location of a project's grid connection, due to this applicants must declare what category their project belongs to when applying.


The notice also confirms that the Administrative Strike Prices for AR8 will remain unchanged from Allocation Round 7.
Offshore wind will remain at an Administrative Strike Price of £113/MWh, while floating offshore wind and other deepwater offshore wind projects will remain at £271/MWh, with all ASPs being presented in 2024 prices.
