Turkey has identified four offshore wind development zones and plans to
launch its first offshore wind YEKA auction after the permitting process
is complete.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the areas
are located offshore near the Gulf of Saros, Gökçeada, Bozcaada and Edremit.
Bayraktar said Turkey is targeting 5 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035
and described offshore wind as one of the country’s main strategic energy
priorities for the coming decade.
The minister also said Turkey will continue to hold Renewable Energy Resource
Area (YEKA) auctions totalling at least 2 GW annually, with 1.5 GW of wind
capacity planned in 2026.
Speaking at the TÜREK 2026 wind energy congress, Bayraktar said Turkey’s
installed wind capacity has exceeded 15 GW, compared with 20 MW in 2005.
Wind generation accounted for around 11% of the country’s electricity
production in 2025, according to the ministry.
Turkey is targeting a combined 120 GW of wind and solar capacity by 2035
and plans to invest $30 billion in transmission infrastructure over the
period, Bayraktar said.
