Thor offshore wind farm, Denmark’s largest offshore wind project has announced the halfway mark for its turbine installation, with 36 out of 72 Siemens Gamesa turbines being fitted.

The turbines are being placed off the coast of Jutland, with 115 metre rotor blades, each standing 148 metres above sea level. Almost half of the 72 turbines are expected to feature Greener Towers, utilising ‘green steel’ to produce 63% less carbon emissions in the construction process. Additionally, 120 recyclable rotor blades will be used in the project demonstrating further environmental considerations.

Once complete the RWE windfarm will have a capacity of more than 1 GW, enough to supply electricity to 1 million Danish households. This milestone reflects a major commitment from the RWE team and partners specifically Siemens Gamesa and Norges Bank Investment Management.

Tobias Keitel, Chief Technology Officer RWE Offshore Wind said: “With every turbine we install, we move closer to delivering Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm. This halfway milestone is the perfect opportunity for me to express my thanks to our project team and supply chain partners.
