Welex Group has announced a major update for Vattenfall’s
Nordlicht 1 offshore wind farm, with Orion now installing the first of 68 monopile foundations.

Each foundation measures up to 80.5 metres in length and weighs more than 1,290 tonnes.

Welex Group, a trading and manufacturing company, supplied the infill blocks and crane mats used to position the spreader bar during the lifting operation.

Construction of the project began in 2026, with the wind farm expected to be fully operational by 2028. Once complete, it is set to become Germany’s largest offshore wind farm, producing around 6 TWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 1.5 million households.
