Taihan Cable
& Solution has acquired a second cable-laying vessel to expand its
offshore wind and subsea transmission installation capabilities.
The company said
the 10,000-tonne-class vessel, Skandi Connector, will operate alongside
the existing vessel PALOS to support offshore wind export and inter-array
cable installation, as well as HVDC and grid interconnection projects.
Skandi Connector
was previously operated by Norway-based marine contractor DOF Group and
has been used on 27 submarine cable installation projects globally, according
to Taihan.
The vessel can
load up to 7,000 tonnes of submarine cable and is equipped with DP2 dynamic
positioning technology and cable installation systems designed for long-distance
transmission and offshore wind applications.
Taihan said the
vessel is particularly suited to shallow-water installation work off Korea’s
west coast due to its flat-bottom hull design and self-propulsion capability.
The acquisition
comes amid rising global demand for cable-laying vessels, driven by offshore
wind expansion and cross-border power transmission projects. Taihan said
the addition strengthens its vertically integrated business covering cable
design, manufacturing, transport and installation.
The vessel is
scheduled to arrive in Korea in August following completion of the purchase
agreement with DOF.
