SSE has updated its plans for the Arklow Bank Wind Park 2 project following changes to its Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Natura Impact Statement.

The updated reports include additional site-specific data and peer-reviewed environmental research, based on further studies carried out for the project.

Arklow Bank Wind Park 2 is an 800 MW offshore wind project in the Irish Sea. It is expected to deliver economic benefits of between 400 and 800 million euros while supporting up to 2,300 jobs.

SSE said further evidence based research and technical modelling are required to assess the project’s potential environmental impacts, including coastline erosion and effects on seabird populations.

A request for additional information was submitted in 2025. SSE has now responded, incorporating new guidance and adjustments to the initial offshore wind farm design.

The company is also inviting public submissions, with observations open from June 3 to July 29.

James O’Hara, head of offshore wind in Ireland at SSE Renewables, said:

“Arklow Bank 2 is one of the most advanced offshore wind projects in Ireland, and this submission of additional information to An Coimisiún Pleanála marks another important step forward for the project.”

The project is expected to support Ireland’s offshore wind ambitions by contributing to job creation, local investment and the transition to cleaner energy.
