Shell Overseas Investment B.V, a Shell subsidiary, has signed an agreement with Aditya Birla Renewables Limited to sell 100% of Solenergi Power Private Limited for $1.8 billion.

Aditya Birla Renewables is a renewable energy platform that develops and operates a diverse portfolio of solar, wind and hybrid energy projects across India.

The sale also included the Sprng Energy Group, a solar and wind power company. Its current portfolio stands at 5 GWp of assets, with 3.3 GWp in operation and an additional 1.7 GWp under contract. However, Shell has confirmed that employees will retain their jobs under the new management.

Shell said the sale reflects developments in its portfolio strategy, which aims to refocus capital allocation while maximising the competitiveness and resilience of the business. The stated goal is to improve business performance and achieve a return on average capital employed (ROACE) of 10% by 2030.
