Prysmian has received the notice to proceed for the construction of the
ELMED electricity interconnector linking Italy and Tunisia.
The project, awarded by Italian transmission system operator Terna and
Tunisian utility STEG, is valued at approximately €460 million and will
now be added to Prysmian's project backlog.
ELMED will create the first direct electricity connection between Europe
and North Africa, supporting the integration of renewable energy and strengthening
energy security on both sides of the Mediterranean.
Prysmian said the project will utilise its Italian manufacturing and installation
capabilities, including submarine cable production at its Arco Felice facility
near Naples and its cable-laying vessel fleet.
The interconnector is expected to enable greater electricity exchange between
Tunisia and Europe, supporting the growth of renewable energy generation
while improving network resilience and cross-border energy connectivity.
