Norwegian geotechnical consultancy NGI and Japanese engineering firm OYO Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on offshore wind projects in Japan.

The agreement was signed at the Japan-Norway Ocean Future Forum in Tokyo and reinforces the existing working relationship between the organisations.

Under this partnership, NGI and OYO will combine their expertise in offshore site investigations, geotechnical engineering and foundation design to support the development of Japan's offshore wind sector.

The collaboration will cover multiple areas such as site characterisation, seismic and geohazard assessment, advanced laboratory testing and foundation design for fixed-bottom and floating offshore wind projects.

The companies also plan to complete joint research and share technical knowledge, with several collaborative projects already in development.

NGI said the agreement strengthens its presence in the Japanese offshore wind market, while OYO highlighted the partnership as a vital step towards a long-term strategic relationship.
