Nexans joins Seagreen team

Nexans

Nexans has been named as a preferred supplier to design, manufacture and install the onshore and offshore export cables for the Phase 1 development of the Seagreen offshore wind farm project. The project is under development by SSE Renewables and is located 27 km off the Angus. It will be one of the most significant construction projects undertaken in Scotland and could contribute over £2 billion to the UK economy.

The wind farm was recently successful in the UK government’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, securing a 15-year contract for 454 MW at a strike price of £41.61/MWh. The CfD contract represents 42% of the total project capacity with plans to build out to a total of 1,075 MW capacity.

Seagreen Project Director John Hill said: “We are pleased to announce Nexans as our preferred supplier to design, supply and install the onshore and offshore export cable. Nexans is one of the world leaders in this field and this agreement is a major step forward for the Seagreen project.”

Vincent Desale, Nexans SEVP for the Subsea and Land System Business Group commented: “We are delighted to receive this agreement from SSE and we are excited to be helping to bring the biggest wind farm in Scotland to life.”

SSE Renewables is hosting “Meet the Buyer” events on the 5th, 6th and 7th of November in Inverness, Aberdeen and Dundee respectively to promote contract opportunities for local companies to engage with the Seagreen project. Nexans will be attending these events to meet with members of the supply chain and discuss its service offerings for the project.
