NeuConnect
has completed delivery of all 14 transformers for its 1.4 GW UK-Germany
interconnector project.
The transformers,
supplied by Siemens Energy, will support voltage conversion at the project’s
converter stations on the Isle of Grain in Kent and Wilhelmshaven in northern
Germany.
Seven transformers
have been delivered to each site, with the final unit arriving at Wilhelmshaven
this week.
Each transformer
measures around 7 metres long, 5 metres high and weighs more than 200 tonnes.
The £2.4 billion
project will connect the UK and Germany via 725 km of subsea cables, allowing
electricity to flow in both directions between the two markets.
NeuConnect said
construction of the main converter station buildings in both countries
has reached full height, while Prysmian has now laid more than 300 km of
subsea cable.
The HVDC link
is expected to support energy security and improve integration of renewable
power across the UK and German electricity systems.
