Mubadala Investment Company has acquired a stake in the 2.9 GW Hornsea
3 offshore
wind project in the UK as part of a consortium led by Apollo-managed funds.
The project is being developed by Ørsted and is expected to become one
of the world’s largest offshore wind farms once operational.
Mubadala said the investment expands its exposure to renewable energy infrastructure
and forms part of a broader partnership with Apollo. Financial terms were
not disclosed.
Hornsea
3
secured a UK Contract for Difference in 2022. The project is expected to
supply electricity to more than 3 million UK homes once completed.
The transaction adds another sovereign-backed investor to Europe’s offshore
wind sector as developers increasingly seek external capital partners for
large-scale projects.
