Ming Yang eyes European turbine factory after UK setback

Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy is considering
plans for a European manufacturing facility following difficulties gaining
traction in the UK offshore wind market, according to Reuters.
The company is reportedly exploring the development of a European production
base as part of efforts to strengthen its regional presence and improve
alignment with localisation requirements increasingly tied to offshore
wind developments.
Ming Yang has been attempting to expand into the European offshore wind
sector for several years, positioning itself as a lower-cost alternative
to established Western turbine manufacturers such as Siemens Gamesa and
Vestas. However, progress in the UK market has been limited amid growing
political and industry scrutiny surrounding Chinese involvement in critical
energy infrastructure.
A European manufacturing presence could help the company improve market
acceptance while supporting regional supply chain and local content expectations.
The report did not identify a preferred location for the proposed facility,
although several European countries are actively seeking investment in
offshore wind manufacturing as governments look to strengthen domestic
clean energy supply chains.
The development comes as Europe accelerates its offshore wind deployment
targets while seeking to reduce reliance on overseas manufacturing and
to reinforce strategic industrial capacity.
Ming Yang has already deployed large offshore wind turbines across China
and the Asia-Pacific markets, including models exceeding 18 MW, and has
previously outlined ambitions for broader international expansion.
