LS Marine Solutions begins construction of new cable laying vessel

LS Marine Solutions has officially begun construction of a new submarine cable laying vessel. The steel-cutting ceremony was held on 6 June 2026 at Tersan Shipyard.

The vessel is intended to support the clean energy transition by streamlining operations through reduced jointing and transport times, enabling it to manage large scale power grid projects more efficiently.

Delivery is expected in the first half of 2028. With a cable loading capacity of 13,000 tonnes, it will be the largest cable laying vessel in South Korea and is specifically designed for long distance HVDC projects and offshore wind farm grids.

The new vessel also forms part of a wider supply chain strategy being developed by its parent company, LS Cable & Systems. The expansion of LS GreenLink, the company’s U.S. based submarine cable manufacturing subsidiary, is expected to coincide with the vessel’s completion, allowing LS Cable & Systems to provide a more efficient service across North America and Europe.
