Llŷr floating wind farm has been granted a Marine Licence


Natural Resources Wales has granted a marine licence for the Llŷr floating wind farm project, a test and demonstration facility off the Pembrokeshire coast.

Llŷr is among the first floating offshore wind farms to be developed and constructed in the UK and is intended to support the development and testing of emerging technologies.

Once operational, the project will generate 200 MW of renewable energy, enough to power an estimated 200,000 homes.

The wind farm will comprise 10 turbines, each standing more than 300 metres above sea level, reflecting the growing scale of offshore wind operations.

Ruth Jenkins, head of Planning and Permitting Services and Marine Operations at Natural Resources Wales, said:“We ensure energy projects are developed sustainably and with respect for the environment and local communities. At the same time, we play a vital role in enabling innovation in green energy.”

Natural Resources Wales said the licence reflects its commitment to supporting Wales' clean energy transition while ensuring the protection of the environment and local communities.
