JDR Cable Systems has opened a new subsea cable manufacturing facility in Cambois, U.K.

Construction of the facility began in 2022, costing £130 million, supported by the government’s offshore wind manufacturing investment support scheme.

The aim of the new facility is to support increasing demand for offshore wind infrastructure, positioning the U.K. as a global leader in high-voltage subsea production.

The facility covers 69,000 square metres, expanding manufacturing capacity to supply inter-array, interconnector and export cable systems.

The manufacturing facility includes a research and development process designed to increase cable delivery lengths of advanced AC cable solutions with larger cable cross sections and a higher voltage class.

A spokesperson for JDR highlighted the uniqueness of the facility, stating it is the only site in the U.K. with the ability to complete the manufacturing process of this high-voltage subsea cable, underscoring the project’s potential.
