Hellenic Cables has been awarded a framework agreement valued at €1.15 billion by
Greek transmission system operator IPTO to deliver major electricity interconnections linking islands in the Dodecanese and North Aegean.

The contract, awarded through Hellenic Cables subsidiary Fulgor, covering the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of four interconnection projects.

The projects will comprise approximately 694 km of 150kV AC submarine cables and 227 km of 150Kv AC underground cables. Manufacturing is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected by 2031.

IPTO said the interconnections form part of its programme to integrate Greece's island electricity systems with the mainland grid, improving energy security, grid resilience and the integration of renewable energy.

Alexis Alexiou, CEO of Cenergy Holdings, stated: “he interconnection of Greece’s islands is a key component of the country’s energy infrastructure and enhances energy security and network resilience.”

The framework agreement remains subject to approvals and will take effect once IPTO issues a notice to continue.
