The
proposed masterplan covers the 90-acre peninsula, which already serves
as an important base for offshore wind and offshore gas operations in the
southern North Sea.
Key
elements include the development of Nelson Energy Park as a hub for offshore
energy businesses, improvements to port infrastructure, and the redevelopment
of sites that support maritime industries along the River Yare.
The
plans align with wider investment proposals in the area, including a £60
million expansion of port facilities and a £20 million operations and maintenance
campus.
According
to the council, the southern North Sea hosts more than 1,000 operational
offshore wind turbines, placing Great Yarmouth in a strong position to
support future industry growth. The authority believes the regeneration
programme could help create more than 3,000 jobs over the coming years.
