Greek
transmission system operator ADMIE (IPTO) has completed the evaluation
of bids for a framework agreement covering submarine and underground cable
systems for a series of island interconnection projects across the Dodecanese
and North Aegean regions.
The
six-year framework, which has a maximum budget of €2.07bn excluding VAT,
covers the design, supply and installation of 150kV high-voltage alternating
current (HVAC) cable systems for major interconnection projects as well
as smaller links in the Ionian and Saronic island groups.
Fulgor
was ranked first for the package covering the Thrace-Lemnos, Kos-Rhodes,
Lesvos-Lemnos and Lesvos-Chios interconnections. Prysmian Powerlink was
ranked first for a second package comprising the Rhodes-Karpathos, Aliveri-Skyros,
Samos-Kos, Skyros-Lesvos, Chios-Samos, Aegina-Megara and Kefalonia-Kyllini
links.
According
to ADMIE, the tender was structured as a long-term framework agreement
to secure cable manufacturing capacity amid strong international demand
for submarine power cable projects. The approach enables the transmission
operator to reserve production slots and support the delivery of multiple
projects over the coming years.
The
Dodecanese interconnection programme will connect Kos, Rhodes and Karpathos
to the Greek mainland transmission system via Corinth, while the North
Aegean programme will connect Lemnos, Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Skyros through
a phased development programme.
The
tender process is expected to conclude with the formal award of the framework
agreements.
The
procurement represents one of the largest cable frameworks currently under
development in the European transmission sector and further strengthens
the order outlook for major submarine cable manufacturers as demand for
grid expansion and island interconnections continues to grow across the
region.
