Environmental monitoring programme will support Ireland's growing offshore
wind sector as major projects advance through development and consenting.
Fugro has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide marine mammal monitoring
services in support of Ireland's expanding offshore wind industry, reinforcing
environmental oversight as the country works towards its renewable energy
targets.
Under the programme, Fugro will deliver specialist monitoring and data
collection services designed to improve understanding of marine mammal
activity in areas associated with offshore wind development. The work will
support environmental assessments, regulatory compliance and project planning
activities across Ireland's emerging offshore wind market.
The contract comes at a pivotal time for Ireland's
offshore wind sector.
The country has set a target of delivering at least 5GW of offshore wind
capacity by 2030 and is progressing a number of large-scale projects through
the planning and consenting process.
Among the developments expected to contribute to those ambitions are the
1.3 GW
Codling Wind Park,
the 824MW Dublin
Array,
and the proposed North Irish Sea Array. Environmental baseline studies
and ongoing monitoring are becoming increasingly important components of
project development, helping developers assess potential impacts on marine
ecosystems while meeting regulatory requirements.
The latest award adds to Fugro's growing involvement in Ireland's offshore
wind sector, where the company has previously supported seabed survey and
site characterisation programmes linked to future offshore energy infrastructure.
