First electricity has been fed into the German grid by Nordseecluster A

Nordseecluster A offshore wind farm has reached a major milestone, with the first electricity now being fed into the German grid.

Nordseecluster is a joint project between RWE, which is responsible for construction and operations throughout the project's lifecycle, and Norges Bank Investment Management. Once fully completed, the project will deliver 1.6 GW of renewable energy, supporting Germany's net-zero ambitions and strengthening energy security.


On its own, Nordseecluster A has a total capacity of 660 MW, comprising 44 wind turbines and two offshore substations.

Following this milestone, the project is expected to be fully connected to the grid by 2027, with turbine installation, testing, and commissioning following gradually.


Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind, said: “The Nordseecluster, RWE's largest offshore wind project currently under construction, is progressing exactly as planned, with the first turbine now generating electricity and feeding power into the German grid.”


The next phase of RWE's largest offshore wind project, Nordseecluster B, will add a further 900 MW of capacity. Turbine installation is expected to begin next year, with commercial operations scheduled to start in 2029.
