European turbine makers push for tighter controls on Chinese wind technology

European wind turbine manufacturers are calling for tighter restrictions
on non-Western suppliers amid growing concerns over cybersecurity and supply
chain resilience.
According to reporting by the Financial
Times,
Nordex CEO José Luis Blanco said “non-western” turbine makers should
be considered high-risk suppliers under European cybersecurity rules.
The comments come amid growing competition from Chinese turbine manufacturers
including Goldwind, Windey and Ming Yang, particularly across the offshore
wind sector.
The
UK recently moved to block
Chinese turbine manufacturer Ming Yang from parts of its offshore wind
sector over national security concerns, while the European Commission has
also introduced measures targeting “high-risk” suppliers within renewable
energy infrastructure.
Industry leaders have warned Europe risks becoming increasingly dependent
on foreign clean energy technology suppliers as offshore wind deployment
continues to accelerate across the region.
