Equinor to exit offshore wind business in Japan
Equinor has announced that it will end its offshore wind business activities
in Japan
and close its Tokyo office by the end of 2026.
The Norwegian energy company said the decision reflects a reassessment
of its strategy, with a greater focus on integrated power markets.
Equinor has been active in Japan's emerging offshore wind sector, working
with local partners and engaging with government and industry stakeholders
as the country aims to expand renewable energy generation.
Despite withdrawing its local offshore wind operations, Equinor said Japan
will remain an important market for the company. It intends to maintain
relationships with Japanese businesses across technology development, commodities,
capital markets and the energy supply chain.
The move comes as Equinor continues to refine its global renewables strategy.
Earlier this month, the company dropped its 2030 renewable capacity target
as part of a broader strategic update.
