Ecowende's offshore wind farm delivers first power
Ecowende's Hollandse
Kust West offshore
wind farm has been connected to TenneT's offshore grid to generate its
first carbon free energy.
The project is
made up of 52 Vestas 15MW wind turbines and is expected to be fully commissioned
by the end of 2026.
Once complete, the wind farm will generate around 3.3TWh of renewable electricity
annually, enough to meet around 3% of the Netherlands electricity demand.
Alongside power generation, Hollandse Kust West is designed to implement
a range of nature inclusive measures aiming to reduce the environmental
impact of offshore wind.
These measures include turbines fitted with a single red blade to prevent
bird collisions, wider turbine spacing, dedicated bird corridors, AI-assisted
bird and bat monitoring, and enhanced scour protection designed to create
habitats for marine life.
This project marks a major milestone for one of Europe's most environmentally
focused offshore wind projects.
