DNV has certified the third milestone for the Nordseecluster A offshore wind projects in the German North Sea.

The certification confirms that the project’s design, installation, operation and decommissioning plans comply with standards set by the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), allowing RWE to proceed with turbine installation.

Nordseecluster A is a joint offshore wind project developed by energy company RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management. It is expected to be one of Germany’s largest offshore wind developments, with a planned capacity of 1.6 GW.

“The DNV certification for the third BSH release is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our teams and partners,” said Sven Schulemann, project director for Nordseecluster. “The transition from planning and design to physical construction brings us a step closer to delivering clean, reliable energy to support Germany’s climate ambitions.”

Germany has set ambitious targets for offshore wind development. The country aims to install 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, 40 GW by 2035 and 70 GW by 2045.
