DEME, through its Japanese joint venture Japan Offshore Marine (JOM), has secured a contract for the offshore installation of 21 wind turbines at the Oga–Katagami–Akita Offshore Wind Project in Japan.

Under the contract, JOM will install 21 Vestas V236-15 MW turbines, marking the first deployment of 15 MW-class turbines in Japan and the first application of turbines of this size outside Europe, excluding China.

Offshore installation works are scheduled for the second half of 2027 and will be carried out by the jack-up installation vessel
Sea Challenger, which is expected to sail under the Japanese flag by the time construction begins.

JOM is a Tokyo-based joint venture between DEME and Penta-Ocean Construction, combining international offshore wind installation expertise with local execution capabilities.

Akihiko Togo, CEO of Japan Offshore Marine, said the project represents an important step for Japan's offshore wind industry, while Frank Jonckheere, General Manager Asia-Pacific Offshore Energy at DEME, said the award confirms JOM is well-positioned to support larger-scale offshore wind developments in the country.

The contract further strengthens DEME's presence in Japan's growing offshore wind market as the country continues to expand its renewable energy capacity.
