DAERA releases offshore wind compensation plans

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has
released a document on Environmental Compensatory Measures for Offshore
Wind in Northern Ireland.
The consultation aims to gather feedback on the proposed measures for offshore
wind projects. The document outlines how environmental compensation should
be identified and delivered, focusing on two elements of the Offshore Wind
Environmental Improvement Package: strategic compensatory measures and
a Marine Recovery Fund.
The aim is to introduce a more flexible approach to environmental compensation,
including the use of wider compensatory measures where adverse impacts
on protected sites cannot be avoided.
The consultation is seeking feedback on how clear, proportionate, and workable
the proposals are, which will help inform future guidance.
The consultation on the new measures will officially close on September
21.
