Crown Estate launches accelerated tender for 1.5GW Morgan offshore wind site

The Crown Estate has launched an accelerated competitive tender to appoint a new developer to build and operate the up to 1.5GW Morgan offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.

The project was returned to The Crown Estate after its previous developers discontinued development earlier this year. Morgan and the neighbouring Mona project had not secured Contracts for Difference (CfD) in the UK’s seventh allocation round, with EnBW citing supply-chain cost increases, higher interest rates and project delivery risks among the factors affecting their economic viability.

Morgan secured development consent for its offshore wind farm assets in August 2025 and has a grid connection agreement with the National Energy System Operator. A decision on the joint Morgan and Morecambe transmission assets application is expected in September 2026.

Bids are expected to be submitted over the summer, followed by a rising clock auction. The Crown Estate aims to select a preferred bidder towards the end of 2026.
