Boskalis christens new subsea rock installation vessel

Boskalis celebrates key milestone as its new subsea rock installation vessel is officially christened.

The Windpiper is now ready after 18 months of conversion work. The vessel measures at an impressive 227 by 40 metres, doubling its rock installation capacity to 45,500 metric tonnes across two holds, making it the largest SRI vessel in the industry.

The vessel is designed to support the energy transition by working on offshore wind projects, initially in Northwest Europe.

The upgraded vessel features an inclined fall pipe, seven thrusters and DP2 certification, making it well suited to challenging offshore conditions.

Boskalis commissioned the vessel to help meet growing demand in the offshore wind industry. Its increased capacity minimises the number of round trips required, making operations more efficient and reducing their environmental impact.
