Blue Mackerel has received a decision on its assessment pathway


Blue Mackerel has announced that the Victorian Minister for Planning has determined the environmental assessment pathway for the company’s proposed 1 GW offshore wind project.

The Minister ruled that an Environmental Effects Statement is not required. Instead, the project will be assessed through a Targeted Environment Report, which will examine the direct and indirect impacts of the Victorian components of the development on biodiversity across a range of habitats.

The decision reflects the need to assess potential impacts on biodiversity, water values and cultural heritage, as well as other environmental considerations associated with the project area.

As a result, the assessment process must be undertaken in consultation with the Department of Transport and Planning and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

Once the Targeted Environment Report has been completed, the findings will be subject to further review by the Victorian Minister for Planning.

The decision provides a clearer regulatory pathway for the project as it progresses through the environmental approvals process.
