Baltic Power, a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power, has announced first power from its offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea.

This marks a major milestone in the project’s development, with the first turbines, each with the individual capacity of 15MW, now generating electricity. A total of 50 turbines have been installed so far, with the remaining 26 expected to be installed later this year.

The electricity generated has been successfully delivered to Poland’s national grid, with receipt of the power confirmed by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne at an onshore substation near Choczewo.

The wind farm has been a collaborative effort involving more than 200 employees from Baltic Power, alongside contractors, suppliers, public authorities, local government and the grid operator.

This marks the beginning of an expected 30-year operational lifespan for the project. The next phase will involve gradually bringing additional turbines online until the wind farm reaches its full capacity of 1.2GW.

Work is also continuing behind the scenes, including the integration of onshore and offshore infrastructure, as well as further testing of electrical equipment and mechanical systems.
