Baltic Power installs 50 turbines as Poland's first offshore wind farm nears completion

The Baltic Power offshore wind project has passed a major construction milestone with 50 of its planned 76 turbines now installed in the Baltic Sea.

Developed by ORLEN and Northland Power, the 1.2GW project is Poland's most advanced offshore wind development. All 78 foundations and transition pieces have already been installed, while both offshore substations and the onshore grid connection infrastructure are ready for commissioning.

The project is now focused on installing the remaining turbines, completing cable-laying activities and carrying out testing required to connect the wind farm to Poland's national electricity network.

Once operational, Baltic Power is expected to generate around 4TWh of electricity annually, enough to meet 3% of Poland's current power demand.

The project is among the first in the world to deploy Vestas' 15MW offshore wind turbines. Located around 23 kilometres off the Polish coast near Choczewo and Leba, the wind farm is scheduled to become Poland's first operational offshore wind project.

The milestone marks another significant step for Poland's offshore wind sector as the country moves to expand renewable energy generation and strengthen energy security.
