Ørsted says Offshore Wind remains cost competitive despite system costs

New Ørsted interview claims that Renewable electricity remains the lowest-cost
source of power, even with included maintenance costs.
In an interview, Ulrik Stridbæk, the company's head of regulatory and public
affairs, said assessments of energy costs should account for factors such
as grid infrastructure, backup generation and system stability, rather
than comparing technologies on construction and operating costs alone.
Stridbæk said Ørsted's analysis found offshore wind remains cost competitive
with other major sources of electricity, including natural gas and nuclear
power, after these wider system costs are considered.
The company said expanding offshore wind could help improve Europe's energy
security by reducing exposure to unpredictable fuel prices while supporting
climate targets.
The report emphasised the importance of offshore wind to meet growing electricity
demands and reduce dependence on imported energy.
