Ørsted opens their largest ever apprenticeship recruitment campaign on the East Coast

Ørsted, the most sustainable
European energy company, has opened applications for its wind turbine technician
apprenticeships, for its East Coast wind farms.
Across the UK, Ørsted has had 54 wind turbine technician apprentices since
starting its programme in 2017. All 14 apprentices who have completed their
courses to date, are now full-time employees and working on Ørsted windfarms
on both the East and West coasts. With 40 still training and 18 starting
their apprenticeships in 2023.
This announcement is for the first phase of 2023 applications for roles
located on the East Coast. The second stage will see positions available
on the West Coast. Keep your eyes peeled for this announcement, in the
near future.
This year, the renewable energy giant launches its biggest recruitment
yet for their East Coast sites. By the end of 2023 18 apprentices will
have kick started their renewable energy career in Grimsby with Ørsted.
With the government’s ambition of 50GW offshore wind for 2030, the need
for people to either start their career or transition into the green energy
revolution is more pressing than ever.
Oliver Booth, third year Apprentice Wind Turbine Technician, said: ‘I’m
Grimsby born and bred, and feel so lucky to be able to work in such a thriving
industry, right here in my hometown. The apprenticeship has given me the
opportunity to learn lots of new skills, whilst contributing to help tackle
climate change. The people we work with are lovely, and it’s great to
see such a diverse group of people and seeing people relocate to the area
for the opportunity. "
The programme spans across three and a half years. The East Coast apprentices
will study at Grimsby Institute for Higher Education, for their first year,
before getting hands-on experience working offshore at one of Ørsted’s
six East Coast offshore wind farms during their second and third years.
Rob Howes, Lead Apprentice Specialist said: ‘It’s so exciting to be opening
our largest recruitment on the East Coast yet. We really want to encourage
everyone to have a look and apply. The application process gives you an
opportunity to show us your passion, and teamwork skills. We’re not looking
for a ready-made wind turbine technician, we want people who have the potential
and want to be part of this thriving industry.’
With a minimum age limit of 16 for applicants, there’s no maximum age
for people to apply for an apprenticeship with Ørsted. We ask for applicants
to have three GSCEs grade C/4 and above, including Maths, English and Science
or a technical subject.
Upon completion of the programme, apprentices will have gained a Maintenance
and Operations Engineering Technician (MOET) qualification and will become
fully qualified wind turbine technicians.
The application window is open for two weeks and will close on 13th March.
